I recently watched the movie The Blind Side for the tenth time. It was a comedy-drama filled movie based on real life events. It was released in theaters in 2009. This story included life lessons and how to take the higher road in many ways and we should not take things for granted. The movie focuses in on turning your life around in a second and becoming something you would always dream of. The Blind Side followed the genre of being a comedy-drama filled movie very well.
The movie shadowed a young African American boy that struggled growing up and making the right choices. He didn’t have much of a family so he was always on his own. One day the boy was playing around on a Christian Private School’s property and the football coach noticed him. The coach wanted him so bad that he made his way into the private school. After this occurred, the Touhy family noticed him also. They wanted to take him into their home and show him that he has choices how to live his life. It turned his life around when they took him in. He started football for the first time at the private school and he ended up playing in college. The boy would have never guessed he could have lived the life he did after meeting the Touhy’s.
The movie was full of comedy related scenes. The mother of the Touhy family, Leigh Anne, was the most comical character of the movie. She is a very opinionated person and she shows it throughout the whole movie. Scenes with Leigh and the coach were probably the funniest parts because Leigh Anne always tried showing up the coach by what she knew while the coach was getting annoying. The little brother, SJ, was funny also. He was about 12 years old and wanted to fit in with the older kids so he was always active with Michael. There were many funny things, but also many scenes with drama.
The movie was based on Michael’s real life and his life was not the easiest. There were many dramatic scenes to show you how bad his life was. The movie flashes back to one particular moment Michael remembered. He kept thinking about when the state was taking him from his mother and that affected him badly. The movie explains that when he was taken from her and placed in a foster home he would always try running back to find his mom. Another scene that was pretty bad was when Michael and SJ were driving to the store to get a video game and Michael crashed the car. This really affected the Touhy family because Leigh Anne was afraid that she was going to lose two of her children. This brought the family really close.
One movie that I though connected with this movie really well was the movie Radio. In this movie a boy was mentally challenged and spent his days walking around the town. The boy walked up to a high school football practice and the boys abused him. This connects because both boys, Michael and Radio, were treated badly. After the coached found him being abused by the players, he took looked after him like he was his own. He made the boy, Radio, feel like he actually belonged there. This movie compared to The Blind Side because it followed many drama or depressing times and shadowed many comedy moments being when Radio tries practicing with the players.
I think people held lower expectations about this movie because I remember not thinking this would get an Oscar winning until I went and seen it. The movie went over and beyond with what they added in the movie and made the movie follow what it was supposed to, not adding anything that was irrelevant to the movie. If the readers were into sports, including football, they would really want to see the movie. Especially, the people that watch the NFL because it is a true story. I thought this was a fantastic movie. The movie really followed the lines of being comedy-drama filled.
I wanted to revise my paper on my movie review. I wanted to because I thought once I re-read the requirements I realized what else I could add. I am glad I had an opportunity to re-do this because I didn’t realize how bad of a job I did until I kept going over my paper and by that time I wasn’t able to re-do it. I think I did a better job when I re-did it and I hope to get a better grade.
